Byway Travel specialise in slow travel journeys across the UK and Europe.
Our adventures don’t rely on flights, and we stand by the principle that travelling through the world is better than flying over it.
We provide holidays across the UK and Europe by train, boat and bus:
📍 Multi-stop slow travel itineraries taking you away from the crowds
🚂 Dynamic and tailored holiday built within seconds
🤝 Includes customised transport, hand-picked accommodation and experiences and WhatsApp trips and support.
🌱 B-corp certified, 4.9 star reviews on Trustpilot and featured in the Guardian, The Independent, The Times and The Telegraph
Did you know? Rail travel accounts for just 14g of CO2 per passenger mile, dwarfed by the 285g generated by air travel (Energy Saving Trust, 2018). You could travel by train from London to Edinburgh five times and your carbon footprint would still be lower than if you flew there!
👋 Meet our team at www.byway.travel/about/team
Hey all, I would love for you to check out Byway! We are growing fast and hiring, let me know if you've got any questions about the roles advertised on our site. We’re also seeking partners who share our mission of making slow travel mainstream. So if you’re looking to update your current travel offering to provide overland options or promote slow travel to your audience, I'd love to hear from you.
I love this concept! I hate flying with plane because I get severe anxiety and fear – so overland trips sound amazing. Do you plan to expand to Eastern Europe as well? What are the current challenges?
Hey Maria, we definitely want to expand to the whole of Europe and have ambitions to cover the world eventually! We have made some trips to Eastern Europe, so if you're interested just get in touch and we will see what we can do for you. :)
I would say our main challenges are 1) the cost of train travel vs air travel, train travel is not subsidised in the same way aviation is in the UK and many other European countries. For example, to get a family of four to the South of Spain by train will cost a lot more than taking a low-cost flight, and is more difficult to achieve for people on lower (or even normal) incomes. This is where we need to make a difference by finding ways to make it more affordable.
And the second challenge 2) is that many people haven't experienced slow travel yet, they are keen to get to their 'destination' quickly and stay there. We believe that there is a lot of joy and beauty to be found in the experience of the journey itself when you take it slow. The journey is part of the holiday experience. The challenge for us is how to bring that story across to get people to try it and then give them the best experience so they will also become slow travel enthusiasts.
Hi Byway! I was introduced to you guys at the IWTTF recently in London and I loooove what you're doing. Planning to reach out to ya'll soon to chat!
Hey Hilary, ah that's great to hear! Love to chat :)
Hi Marijke, what's the best way to contact you? You can reach me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Hi Hilary, feel free to get in touch on email@example.com :)
This is fantastic. just came back from 2 months in europe where I ended up using bus and trains as my main way of transportation. look forward to seeing you grow. cheers.
Sounds lovely Nabil! Thank you :)
Yes! I would love to connect, Marijke, as I'm about to run (and announce) an event in Split, Croatia on this topic. For our last event, our MC travelled overland from Bristol to Dubrovnik. :) And I opted to car pool/road trip rather than fly to Tirana recently. Look forward to reading more on your site. Thanks for sharing your background.
Awesome Tanja! We do partnerships with event organisers too- getting their guests to the event flight-free - if that's something you think would be interesting!
Thanks Marijke! I was offline this week, hence the delay. It sure is! I have a few events coming up. I'd like to follow up in a message - seems we need to mutually follow. Also, my www is down, hopefully sorting by the weekend. It has more info on the kind of work.
Hi. Do you guys organize walking tours (self guided or guided)? Or have any suggestions on who to chat to?
Hi Rael, we don't organise walking tours - our holidays are self-guided so we would recommend good activities like hikes around the area, and we do have a lot of customers who are hiking enthusiasts.
Would love to collaborate.
Hey Ian, just had a look at your site - it would be great to connect and collaborate! Can you send me a note on firstname.lastname@example.org ?
