Tortuga was founded by two childhood best friends—Fred and Jeremy—after a backpacking trip to Europe in 2009.
We flew into Frankfurt then visited Prague, Budapest, and Hvar, Croatia. The trip was a blast, but our luggage was a disaster. Jeremy’s shoulder strap ripped off on the first day, and Fred’s giant hiking backpack was a disorganized mess. That trip taught us how hard it is to travel with the wrong gear.
We couldn’t find the perfect travel backpack. So we made it.

Hi Everyone,
I'm Fred, the co-founder of Tortuga. TM asked me to post here even though we've been making bags for 12(!) years now. We have weathered the pandemic and are ready to join you in the coming travel boom.
Later this summer, we'll be releasing our new V4 line of backpacks based on 5+ years of customer feedback. I'll post the new bags when they've launched.

I have been a BIG fan of Tortuga backpacks for the last 5 years. I am constantly singing your praises. I recommend Tortuga backpacks to anyone and everyone. If I could get a Setout and Outbreaker combination backpack, it'd be a game changer
