Tokyo Travel Massive is back: Photos from our chapter reboot event in Japan

What a night! After some time away, we couldn’t have asked for a better welcome back for the Tokyo Travel Massive chapter last week at UltraSuperNew KURA in Shibuya. We had a full house of familiar faces and new ones, all in the mood to connect.

The room brought together a brilliant cross section of our industry. Travel technology and marketing professionals from companies including JTB Group, Tobu Group, Travelpayouts, EXO Japan, Hanshin Contents Link, HIS and Derbysoft joined tour guides and operators, content creators and travel startups. It was exactly the kind of mix that make attending Travel Massive events so worthwhile — some members traveled from nearby prefectures to attend.

To get the conversation flowing, we played a round of Travel Bingo, a fun networking idea we borrowed from our friends at the Toronto and LA Travel Massive chapters, sending everyone around the room to swap stories and make new connections. Three winners took home a special gift of artisanal Tasman Sea Salt, brought all the way from the East Coast of Tasmania. We were also thrilled to be joined by Melbourne Travel Massive co-leader Casey Mead and our global founder Ian Cumming, who came along to help welcome the chapter back.

A Treasure House of a Venue: UltraSuperNew KURA

It helped that the setting was unbeatable. We gathered at UltraSuperNew KURA, a rooftop creative hub at the creative agency UltraSuperNew‘s office in Shibuya, named after the traditional Japanese “Kura” or treasure house. It is a space built to nurture a community of creatives, artists and innovators, and it plays host to everything from exhibitions and portfolio nights to speaker series, supper clubs and weekend markets. The weather was perfect, and the views from the rooftop gallery were nothing short of spectacular.

A huge thank you to Marc and the team at UltraSuperNew KURA for opening their doors to us, and to gallery assistant Rachel Nash for looking after the drinks and snacks. And a big thanks every one of you who came along and made the reboot such a success.
