I am the co-founder and content manager at Shiitake Creative, a Tokyo-based creative/consultant company. Prior to that, I was the editor in chief of the lifestyle web magazine Savvy Tokyo (www.savvytokyo.com) and the chief content manager at Tokyo Weekender, the oldest English-language media in Japan. The greatest part of my work involves promoting Japanese destinations and culture to foreign audiences through writing and creative content. Originally from Bulgaria, I have lived in Japan for the past 20 years and it feels a lot like home here.
Shiitake Creative is the founding company of the Japan Travel Awards initiative (japantravelawards.com/en).

Hello, I’m Ally Hongo, one of the co-founders of the Japan Travel Awards, launched in 2021. This year, we received 163 applications from 40 of Japan's 47 prefectures. We were pleased to see that most applications demonstrated efforts to welcome a diver... show more
I'll be traveling to Japan for the first time in my life and I'm super excited! I'm coming from Europe - and I don't know anything about Japan besides the great snow for snowboarding. Obviously, I'm reading a lot and trying to prepare and research as much as possible - but it gets very overwhelming at times. I'll be happy to get some first-hand tips. 1) One week in Tokyo – what are your top things to see / eat / do I should add to my list? 2) Most important things to know about the Japanese culture – unwritten rules, respectful or disrespectful behaviours, etc.? 3) Internet – I will need reliable internet to use for work. What are your top tips if the accommodation doesn't have strong wi-fi? 4) I'll spend 2 months near Madarao Winter Resort for snowboarding. Any tips about winter sports in Japan? 5) Any tours, tour guides, experiences you can recommend? Links to any of your blog articles or videos are very welcome.

I know there are quite a few travel marketers and content creators here, so really interested in your professional opinions on Travelport's 7Wonders campaign. We partnered with Jamie ‘Adventureman’ McDonald to try and break a Guinness world record - to visit the 7 modern wonders of the world in under 7 days. We were mostly focused on creating compelling video content and generating good PR - the main video is here: https://youtu.be/3tfcL-uWQys I think the video is fun. Even though we're a B2B travel tech - we're trying to take a very distinct approach to most corporate-style B2B technology marketing which tends to focus on website, event sponsorship, product features, etc. This looks and feels a lot more like travel marketing to me. [EDIT: Added the correct video link - sorry!]
