I'm building a travel platform that documents the India no guidebook covers

Hi everyone, I'm Krish, a student from Jharkhand, based in Bangalore.

I founded Almanac in April 2026 after noticing something specific: YouTube comment sections under videos about India travel were full of people asking about places like Bara Bhangal, Hunderman, Gartang Gali — and getting no answers. No guidebook covered them. No platform had researched them. The demand existed. The supply didn't.

So I built it.

Six months later: 27 expedition books on genuinely undocumented Indian destinations. A 96-city 3D cinematic map. An AI travel assistant trained on verified local research. Direct operator contacts in every book — no booking system, no commission, just the actual person to call. Try it out at almanacindia.com.

The platform is built on a two-way flywheel this community helped me see clearly: mainstream city guides anchor domain authority and funnel traffic toward hidden destination pages that create the "wait, what is this?" moment that drives sharing.

Three things I learned building this that nobody tells you:

Distribution is harder than the product. The books are done. The map works. The AI chat is live. Getting the first 1,000 people to see it is the actual problem. Every founder says this. It's still surprising when you live it.

Specificity is the only moat. "Hidden places in India" is noise. "Hunderman — the village that was Pakistan until 1971, 8km from Kargil, with a Museum of Memories on the Line of Control" is a story nobody else has told. The more specific the research, the more defensible the position.

Editorial credibility takes time that algorithms don't respect. We built llms.txt, structured data, AI crawler access, IndexNow — everything to be findable. But Google still needs to trust a new domain. That trust is built one backlink, one citation, one piece of genuinely useful content at a time.
