Crypto Cabin An off-grid cabin in the Bulgarian mountains

An off-grid cabin in the forest built using blockchain.

Coworking Bansko, one of the most exciting digital nomad destinations in Europe, has decided to build a cabin on our off-grid "Playground" location in the forest using crowdfunding and blockchain technology.

🔷 Each NFT represents one specific week of usage rights for the next 10 years.
🏕 The cabin is located in nature surrounded by forest with great mountain views.
🌱 In a true off-grid location with solar power and our own water well.
🗳 Owners discuss all relevant aspects of the cabin and vote on decisions.
💻 Coworking Bansko is only 20 minutes away.

How it works
Each token gives you access to one specific week of usage of the Crypto Cabin of Coworking Bansko for the next 10 years from 2022 till 2032. There is an additional service charge that covers cleaning, maintenance and basic supplies that needs to be paid each time to use the cabin.

Use of funds
We have raised >€20k during our presale phase to guarantee that we can actually build a cabin. The proceeds from the initial sale of the NFTs will be used to make the cabin nicer, bigger and more luxurious.

Why we're using blockchain
While we could do this without the blockchain, doing this as a blockchain project is interesting for our community. To gain more experience with blockchain and to attract people that like to explore blockchain possibilities. Using NFTs makes it also very easy for people to sell their usage rights later if they want to.

Ask me anything about this project: crowdfunding, community, crypto or about dogs living in the forest :-)

What happens if a token is lost (or worse, "stolen")? Since the blockchain is immutable, there's no way to give it back. I do think the free market aspects of the NFT is amazing though, and gives power to the users to swap and share. Perhaps the Crypto Cabin needs some NFT artwork to decorate the walls? 🤔

The token is in a wallet, so basically people would need to lose access to their wallet. This is pretty bad as all the crypto in the wallet would also be lost.

Ownership can be traced on the blockchain and we will have a community for all NFT holders, so it would probably be possible to figure out if someone has really lost their NFT and then reissue a new NFT for their week as the project is not 100% on the blockchain but is a real world application.

would certainly get interesting if this happened but i dont think it could be stopped. I guess if it was already in the contract of the nft there maybe something that would allow the creator to revoke powers and validity of the token. IE if someones wallet got compromised and they had their nft stolen the new owner could easily sell it for what ever price he likes to the new owner, who may be blissfully unaware they were buying a stolen nft

Interesting question how creators or marketplaces could invalidate stolen NFTs to prevent unsuspecting buyers from getting stolen goods.

I couldnt find anything about this on Google yet and our project is (hopefully) to small to run into this situation. But clearly something to watch out for in the future.

Interesting concept. These "owners" are the people who bought the NFTs I assume? They are not owners of the cabin right? What happens if the real owners decide to sell? It's an interesting model for sure.

Unfortunately there is no good mechanism (yet) to legally enforce blockchain ownership of NFTs into the real world.

But there is a promise of Coworking Bansko to honor the NFT rights in the future as outlined on the website. So to some extend our community has to trust us. And I am interested to see if this is strong enough to also attract non-community or not-yet community supporters for the cabin project.

This is a bit of an experiment for us as well to see what's really possible on the blockchain and maybe the law will evolve to better integrate with crypto assets - we would then also upgrade our agreement to make it more legally enforceable than now.

Very curious to see how it goes. It does seem like a really good use of NFTs, particularly if it has some legal framework around it.

Clarified the legal structure a bit: coworkingbansko.com/cabin/CryptoCabinTC.html

Love this project. NFT value IRL, something we've been considering for a while now! Has the contract been audited independently? Also, from what i can gather from the website and faqs is that this is very much still just a 'concept'? Am i right? IE one nft gets you a weeks use for 10 years (form now) but what happens if the project doesnt get off the ground for another 3 years? or did i miss some info?

We are using opensea and their smart contract to deal with the NFTs.

It's a bit more than a concept. We raised €20k in a presale to be sure that there is enough money to build the cabin. Now until Dec 31st we are selling NFTs to raise money for a bigger cabin and upgrades. The land has been secured and we have a builder for the cabin, so it should happen.
Target date for the first guest is June 1st, which includes a buffer big enough to complete the building.

If, for whatever reason, the completion date would be delayed, then we would extend the 10 year period to ensure that everyone can stay their 10 weeks in total.

Also, I see on OS that theres only 33 items listed, a couple being the welcome party, and no current owners and non traded as yet. I assume all 52 weeks are not for sale? who holds the other weeks currently not listed, and do they become available later on?

Not all the weeks are listed yet. We did a presale in our community where 12 people paid in fiat instead of on opensea, so the presale tokens will be airdropped into their wallets (but not everyone has a wallt connected to opensea yet...)

I see. Great. So will / have there be eventually 52 separate nfts, 1 for each week? And are the prices different based on seasonality right? And lastly, are the weeks left and available, only the ones currently for sale on OS?

Yes, 52 seperate NFTs, one for each week.
Prices are different for low, mid, high season.

All NFTs are now on Opensea, there are about 30 weeks left

OK great, yes i see! Just deciding if a winter adventure is better than a summer one for the location. Ive done some research and it looks like both are great adventures, if you had to pick, would you say summer or snow season?

I would jump in and say both seasons are great for different things. If you're into snowboarding/skiing, then coming to Bansko in winter is amazing. However, summer offer wonderful hiking opportunities, fresh air, daytrips, etc.

@Matthias, how accessible is the Playground during winter if there's snow?

Construction nearly completed. We aim to finish the Crypto Cabin in October 2022 and have first guests use their weeks this winter.

We are posting regular updates on Facebook and we will soon have a video tour of the location on Facebook: www.facebook.com/coworkingbansko
