Bali to Leeds overland, anyone up for a coffee?

I’m travelling overland from Bali to Leeds (UK) from May 11 to July 14, and thought would post the itinerary here in case anyone is up for a coffee and chat along the way. I am interviewing people in the sustainable tourism/responsible travel field for a book project along the way.

Hiya,

I’m travelling overland from Bali to Leeds from May 11 to July 14, and thought would post the itinerary here in case anyone is up for a coffee and chat along the way. With the exception of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan I am travelling extremely quickly—if I get off a train at all it is really only for the night then back on the train the next morning—but never know paths might cross and all that!

Am interviewing people in the sustainable tourism/responsible travel field for a book project along the way, with a focus on small business owners (not lux), CBT, and those with strong views on tourism + heritage/social/environment—so if you’re in any of these fields (or know someone who is!) and are up for a coffee—or a train ride—please don’t hesitate to drop me a line.

Itinerary—or rather spots where I would actually have time for a coffee—are below. In most cases these are evening only, though in a few I have a down day. So, if you’re in the area and feel like a coffee—or a train leg from here to there—to chat RT/ST, let me know—could be fun.

May 12 Surabaya, Indonesia
May 13 Jakarta, Indonesia
May 15 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
May 17-18 Bangkok, Thailand
May 20 Vientiane, Laos
May 22 Luang Prabang, Laos

May 30-31 Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan
June 6-7 Osh, Kyrgyzstan
June 12-13 Tashkent, Uzbekistan
June 14-16 Samarkand, Uzbekistan
June 17-18 Bukhara, Uzbekistan
June 19-21 Khiva, Uzbekistan
June 22-24 Nukus, Uzbekistan
June 26 Astarakhan, Russia
June 27 Vladikavkaz, Russia
June 28-29 Tbilisi, Georgia
July 2-4 Cappadocia, Turkey
July 6-7 Istanbul, Turkey
July 9-10 Bucharest, Romania
July 11 Budapest, Hungary
July 12 Paris, France
July 13 London, UK
July 14-16 Leeds, UK

Rough map below—yes, I’ll be flying back to Bali.

Cheers!

Hi Stuart,
I am some years into developing “walking travel” and would be happy to meet up on July 12 in Paris.
Let me know when things come together, if you want me to suggest a place for that coffee .
à bientôt,
Gil

OK sounds good—will be in touch closer to the date. July 12 is my birthday, so coffee is on me!

Wow, amazing trip Stuart! Looks like you are just training from Budapest through to Paris across the 11th/12th and probably just bypass me in Hannover/Hildesheim way in Germany as I'd imagine you'll be shooting across to Cologne then across to Paris from there. Otherwise heading to London 14-17th July too for Waypoint event there too. Keen to see the pics of this next month or so part of the journey!
