The Travel Massive Cape Town recently explored the Gay Cape Quarter on a “Lush” Adventure Experience guided by Queer Eye Tours and The Gallivanting Goose.

The adventure started in at the Café Manhattan located in Cape Town’s most vibrant and inclusive neighbourhoods. Members followed the Pink Lane on an interactive adventure — discovering LGBTQ+ landmarks, history, and community hot spots, all while “Sissy-ing That Walk” across the Rainbow Crossing on Somerset Road.

The grand finale? A warm and lively welcome at Honey & Dora, where AB Creations provided delicious refreshments, followed by community acknowledgments, prizes, and a drag performance by The Drag Cartel.

A huge shoutout to our supporters and partners who made this event possible:

  • The Gallivanting Goose (Larissa) for crafting and managing an interactive, fun-packed experience.
  • Café Manhattan (Jonny) and Honey & Dora (Cary & Antonio) for opening their spaces to our community.
  • AB Creations (Alroy), whose delightful catering creations added a delicious touch to the event.
  • Rove SA Magazine (Hester Kleynhans & Maurisha Niewenhuys) for gifting 50 copies of their latest edition.
  • Honey & Dora for generously awarding their signature cocktails as the Grand Prize for our winning team!
  • Travel Massive Community Leaders – including I AM CAPE TOWN (Fuad), Queer Eye Tours (Juan), Queen Bee Marketing (Letishia), CPUT (Michaela), and Accessibility Leader (Sherise).

Thanks to our generous prize sponsors:

  • Made with Pride Coffee Bar – Cindy Samson’s Pride T-shirts went to Fadwa Christians & Nardus Buys.
  • Mzansi Gin – Slee’s prize gin found its way to Jacky Poking.
  • Jetsetting with Janet – Wine hamper with goodies awarded to Kevin Barry.
  • City Sightseeing Tours – Lee-Ann Chain & Ingrid Carelse each received a 2-day ticket.
  • Ark Provisions – Ebony Mangongoma took home a spicy treats hamper.
  • Afrogem – A stunning silver protea pendant went to Gulden Aktugan.
  • The Diamond Works – 1st Prize: Stainless Steel Bracelet for Margaret Mackenzie, 2nd Prize: Garnet Pendant for Pete Statham.

Director, I Am Cape Town

What a great experience and seeing the teams have so much fun and really enjoying it all! Thank you to all who made this day possible.

2024 has been a fantastic year for highlighting LGBTQ+ travel and tourism in the Western Cape through Travel Massive Cape Town. This year’s success is thanks to the dedication and support of our partners who have shared their time, resources, and passion with us – a heartfelt THANK YOU from the Travel Massive Cape Town team!

But this is just the beginning! With Drag Race South Africa launching in 2025 and Cape Town hosting World Pride 2028, we’re committed to hosting LGBTQ+ events three times annually. Each will showcase what’s new, bold, and buzzing in the queer scene of our Mother City.

We’re thrilled to continue collaborating with new partners, amplifying the Gay Cape Quarter’s vibrant travel and tourism offerings, and celebrating Cape Town’s thriving LGBTQ+ culture.

So WATCH THIS SPACE – we’re just getting started! 🌈

Juan, a real BIG THANK YOU from me personally, I never expected this when we first met! I thought ok let's have this event with Queer Eye Tours and then boom we end up making sure that LGBTIQ+ Travel further shines a spotlight on this market and look at what will be happening over the next few years. So we invite those to join us in making it even bigger than what we know and think.

De waterkloof was nice, dont like playing games in the busy roads though, it's dangerous.

Hi Annalie, thank you for your feedback and yes, no one would advocate for anyone to be "playing games in busy roads."

This is a professionally organized, adult activity with safety first being the priority.

All the locations have been pre-mapped, chosen and tested. Whilst in a public domain, rules and regulations were set in place, managed and adhered to by all participants, with indemnity forms signed by ALL our participants.

Due to precautions taken, as well as the responsible adults who participated and adhered to the safety regulations, FUN was had by ALL with NO INCIDENTS to report for the day!

We would never put our members in harms way, nor require anyone to participate in an activity that makes them feel uncomfortable.

From the other reviews, I'm sure you would agree that no one felt that we put their lives in danger.

Again, thanks for your feedback.

Please, just be more cautious and vigilant with your statements - "playing games in busy roads" - is not what happened that day!

I wish you all the best and thanks for your attendance.

I’m glad you enjoyed De Waterkant—it truly is a lovely spot. Regarding your concerns about playing games near busy roads, you were in my group, and I wish you had mentioned that you were feeling unsafe at the time. It would have allowed us to address your concerns and adjust accordingly.

That said, your discomfort does help explain why you stepped away from the group and didn’t fully participate in the activity. Thank you for sharing your perspective.

I arrived first @ the venue where we started. There were 2 reasons why I stepped away. One was because I was worried about my car & had to speak to the parking attended who assured me that I may leave my car the whole afternoon on that spot. The 2nd reason I forgot, but I caught up with the group & didn't miss out much. Didn't like moving backwards & forwards crossing Somerset Rd. Enjoyed Honey & Dora though.
