Follow the Piper Michigan-based published book author Amy Piper chronicles her adventures

I’m Piper and live in Lansing, Michigan. I’ve been chased by bomb sniffing dogs in the middle of the night in Bogotá (working late), refused boarding on a plane from Buenos Aires to Paraguay (wrong visa), and Federal Marshalls announced my seat number on a plane looking for a murder suspect. I had traded seats. It’s always an adventure!

The goal of “Follow the Piper” is to inspire you to “Pack More Travel into Your Life”, loosely defining travel. The site will inspire you get up off the couch, go out to see the world; near or far. Go to that new restaurant in your town. Go to that museum you’ve passed every day for years and never stepped foot in. Do a day trip on Saturday or go away for the weekend.

Do you have any quick tips for bloggers thinking about publishing a book?

Be sure to research your publisher and talk to other authors who have published with that publisher. It is a significant relationship and you want to be sure you are choosing the publisher right for you.

If you are working on a book where the publisher has an entire series, review some of those other books and see how they are priced. There are things the author can do to increase the selling price, if they are aware of how the publisher prices the books.

Realize that once the book is published the author's work continues with marketing and PR for the book. The author has to be an active advocate for the book. I have found I can have several book events a week, especially in the beginning, and depending on the topic of the book that will depend on where you need to be. I wrote a book about my hometown, so I need to be home more rather than my typical travel in order to promote sales.
