In 2011 I built ESA in Crete as a globally unique, off- grid, bioclimatic, biophilia designed, international learning retreat in 10 acres of ancient olive grove in the rural hill-top Cretan village of Drapanos. I believe that people need to 'deep dive experience' the natural world and different cultures to be able to make sense of the sustainability challenges that face us all. Profound understanding and 'feeling' become the anchors for humanity to change behaviour patterns needed for creating more positive impact in the world. I am a experiential learning expert, and since since 2001 I have taken groups of people to wilderness locations for immersive learning experiences. ESA is a sustainability learning sanctuary where people from across the globe come to enjoy being fully bathed in nature with style and comfort and experience the wonder of a dark starry night sky, sometimes for the first time in their lives. It is a place where people can make their own sense of sustainability and their own solutions of adaptation and resilience.
