About me

Erin Smith is a passionate advocate for individuals with celiac disease and the founder of Gluten-Free Globetrotter. Diagnosed with celiac disease in 1981, she has spent her life navigating a gluten-free lifestyle and inspiring others to do the same.

As a pioneer in the gluten-free community, Erin established the NYC Celiac Meetup group, fostering a strong support network for those living with the condition. Her blog and website, Gluten-Free Globetrotter, have become invaluable resources for travelers seeking gluten-free options around the world.

Through her tireless efforts, Erin has transformed the way people with celiac disease approach food and travel. Erin has been featured in Allergic Living Magazine, Gluten-Free Living Magazine, The Celiac Project Podcast, and more. Her dedication to raising awareness and empowering others makes her a true leader in the gluten-free community.

Born and raised in New York, Erin is now living in Montreal, Quebec with her family.

Why did you join the community?

I would love to share my gluten-free travel experiences with others.

What is your favorite travel destination?

Having to choose a favorite travel destination is like having to choose a favorite child. I have so many favorites for different reasons. In Singapore, I went to the home of a local and made gluten-free dumplings. In Rome, I ate gluten-free breadsticks outside of the Vatican. Thailand was my first major solo trip to Asia and it always will hold a special place in my heart. I am a native New Yorker, so NYC is also a top favorite destination.

Where do you dream of traveling to?

I would love to Australia and New Zealand.
I would love to go to Monemvasia, Greece to see the town where my ancestors are from. There is even a hotel that has my grandmother's family name still on it!
I would love to travel extensively throughout South America.
I have a HUGE wish list of travel destinations.

What was your first travel job?

I started my Gluten-Free Globetrotter blog in 2011. I never thought of it as a job, more of a way to share my lifelong experience of living with celiac and gluten-free travel with others. From that blog, my Gluten-Free Globetrotter business evolved into merch, itinerary planning, and consulting for other gluten-free businesses.

What do you want to learn more about?

I want to meet other like minded travelers across the globe.

Three words that describe why we should travel?

explore, culture, freedom
