About me

I grew up in an 'airline & travel industry' family, and am fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel far and wide, across 6 continents, from a very young age.

I am a translator by profession (working from French, German & Spanish into English, specialising in travel & tourism content) but have now also set up my 'Home in the World' travel & lifestyle blog and Instagram, which aims to inspire local and global wanderlust.

Apart from a love of all things language, culture & travel, I also have a keen interest in reading, Formula 1, world affairs, meditation & mindfulness, photography, nature, music, interior design and art exhibitions.

Why did you join the community?

I am looking to build my network in the travel industry, as I have just started my own travel & lifestyle blog and Instagram. I am also keen to explore other opportunities for freelance travel writing, content creation and contributing to existing travel sites.

What is your favorite travel destination?

I generally like to keep visiting new places, but 2 cities I can always go back to are London (yes, a clichΓ© but sometimes clichΓ©s exist for a reason; I just love all the cultural, historic & literary gems it offers) and Los Angeles (I spent quite a lot of time there as a child and the Californian vibe & climate reminds me a bit of Western Australia, where I'm from, so I always feel comfortable there).

Where do you dream of traveling to?

Everywhere!!! But currently high on my list are: Bhutan, Brazil, Cambodia, Chile, Croatia, Georgia, India (my mother is from there), Japan, Mexico, Montenegro, Morocco, Nepal, Oman, Tibet, TΓΌrkiye, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

What was your first travel job?

I've never really worked in travel, as my background is in translation & language services, but I have been travelling far and wide since the age of 1 because both my parents were in the airline/travel industry, so it has always been in my blood. That's why I decided to finally start my own travel blog and hopefully also get more into travel writing & content creation.

What do you want to learn more about?

Travel blogging, travel content creation, travel writing, networking with other travel creators, journalists & editors

  • I came here to also say Thatch! I've signed up to it but have yet to actually use it properly. I know of several content creators who have had success with it, so it's definitely on my list of things to explore.

  • Hi everyone, My name is Emily and I have been on this platform for a while but somehow have only just seen this discussion topic! I'm based in Perth, Western Australia. For the last 17 years, I have worked full time as a freelance translator (which ha... show more

  • I came here as an Australian to say exactly this. I have found that people in Europe/UK are more likely to have an entitled, privileged viewpoint on this. While doing a 'once in a lifetime trip' to Australia from Europe may be possible, for an Australia... show more

  • Thank you! I will definitely let you know if my Oman plans work out (fingers crossed they do). Oh yes, I've been following the Louvre Abu Dhabi on Instagram for a while now too. It looks amazing!! So many things to see, arrghh, haha

  • Thank you so much! I really hope so too. If I definitely end up going, it would certainly be great to get some recommendations!
