NEW YORK, NY – 24 November 2025 – Pangea, the travel technology and social platform designed to help people live better, more fulfilled and connected lives through travel, announced its acquisition of Overlap, the leading app for frequent travelers to see when and where their paths cross with friends worldwide.
This marks the first step in Pangea’s bold plan to unify a fragmented travel technology landscape, which has long been filled with niche tools that force users to juggle multiple platforms for a subpar and disjointed experience.
Pangea’s approach is fundamentally different: instead of building another stand-alone app and adding to the problem, it is committed to unifying scattered travel products and communities into one AI enabled platform.
“The memories we create traveling are shaped by people as much as places,” said Matt Gray, Founder and CEO of Pangea. “Yet most products focus on bookings and logistics instead of connecting people and creating memories. We’ve built a platform to ensure people are always in the right place, at the right time, with the right people, sharing amazing experiences, together. The ‘why’ behind travel, instead of the ‘how’” continued Gray, who has spent the last 12 years living, working and traveling in 111 countries across all seven continents. “Overlap has shared this vision since its inception, and I’m thrilled to welcome Sharon, Jason & Nick along with the entire Overlap community to Pangea as we kick off our consolidation journey.”
As part of the acquisition, Sharon Rosenberg, Founder of Overlap, will join Pangea as Head of Design, leading UI/UX strategy to ensure the experience stays focused on real human connection. Co-founders Nick Zaverdinos and Jason Hu will also remain involved in an advisory capacity, adding decades of technical leadership to accelerate Pangea’s growth.
“Overlap was built on the belief that the best part of travel is the people you share it with,” said Rosenberg. “Joining Pangea means scaling that vision globally, while also giving our amazing community of early adopters a single, stronger home” continued Rosenberg, who is also an avid traveler, spending the last 8 years working remotely from 70+ Countries. “I’m beyond excited to lead design at a company that shares our vision and passion for connecting travelers, sharing experiences and creating memories."
Consolidation works best when led by a team who are consummate users of the apps, as they best understand what works well, what falls short, and how to weave the pieces together.
The Pangea team brings a unique mix of travel obsession, product vision and consolidation experience: Founder Matt Gray and several key advisors previously worked at ION Group, where they were involved in the acquisition and integration of dozens of products across more than 25 acquisitions during ION’s multi-billion-dollar consolidation in Fintech.
Alex Triplett, former Global Corporate Development Head of ION Group and co-head/CFO of ION Corporates, former COO/CFO of Appfire, and Chairman of Pangea’s Board, commented:
“I’ve seen first-hand how consolidation can transform fragmented industries and create category leaders. We did this at ION in Fintech, we did this at Appfire in enterprise collaboration and productivity technology, and now Pangea will do the same in travel technology using a tried-and-true playbook. Matt’s vision and first-hand experience as an exceptional consumer in this niche has given him a clear, unique and ambitious vision to transform the space. Overlap is the first piece in Pangea’s pursuit to become the category-defining platform.”
This first acquisition is only the beginning. With 250+ niche travel products ripe for integration, Pangea is executing a long-term thesis: that reducing digital fragmentation leads to richer, real-world experiences by providing travelers a cohesive platform that finally puts people at the center.
We're super excited to announce the acquisition of Overlap! So many people in both of our communities asked for a way to share trips in ONE platform rather than multiple, so bringing together these two great products & teams is a no brainer.
Many of you might remember that both Overlap & Pangea were covered in the 2023 Whats Hot Roundup by Travel Massive in the digital Nomad category! We're super excited to have both of these products unified into one seamless (and FREE) place for travelers to share their travel plans & connect!
I’m excited to share that Overlap, the passion project my team and I built from the ground up, has been acquired by Pangea, who are bringing together some of the most promising players in travel tech to build the ultimate networking community for digital nomads and global travelers.
What started as our small, scrappy idea has now found a bigger home and an even bigger vision. I’m thrilled to be joining Pangea in a leadership role as Head of Design, where I’ll be helping shape the next chapter of connected travel and scaling the vision we’ve been building for years.
So grateful to everyone who supported Overlap along the way, and so excited for what’s ahead. Onward! 🌍✨
Super big congrats to both @matt-gray and @sharon for this acquisition, bravo!
First of all, I'm very proud of you both for getting together and joining forces! When me and @maria-stoyanova put together the 2023 trends list for my keynote at Bansko Nomad Festival, we were both excited that digital nomad apps were "a thing" but also saw a lot of overlap (sorry for the pun) between the various app. We hung out with the founders of some nomad apps on the list who were attending the festival, and it seemed clear to everyone that in order to survive (customer acquisition, monetization, scale, etc) that some consolidation down the track was likely.
I'm also very excited that two startups that we featured here on Travel Massive are teaming up! This is the kind of ecosystem that I always wanted to build for Travel Massive — where talent, ideas and capital bump into each other to create good things in travel.
Looking forward to tracking your journey and seeing what's next for Pangea and the community!
Thanks Ian! I totally agree - not just about the Digital Nomad space, but for consumer travel tech in general, the fragmentation is a major issue for travelers and brining together great tools into one platform becomes key for both sustainability and for the benefit of travelers making plans more seamless.
Very excited to work with Sharon as we move ahead into the next chapter!
