Hi everyone! I'm Matt, Founder of Pangea!
Over the last 10 years, I've traveled to more than 100 countries and Territories, and Pangea is the app I always wish existed... so we created it! The platform brings together a few awesome components, each with its own genesis throughout my travels.
The Social Pin Map was the start, and really was a selfish need, as my friends and I would always compare our profiles while in-person on the Been App back in 2016. Why not have something more detailed, which included cities, and where we could look up where others had been / want to go, to help figure out where to plan our next trip? And to know who to ask for rec's for a given location (as I really dislike researching a destination before going, and infinitely trust recs from my friends more than the internet)
Next came the idea for Trips in 2017 while waiting to takeoff on a flight from San Antonio. I was traveling every week for work at the time (as were a ton of my friends) so I was thinking about how cool it would be to keep track of where everyone would be, as it would make it easier to plan weekend trips. I put together some early designs on that flight which continued to excite me as a potentially awesome product for years to come.
Fast forward to 2020, a close friend of mine reached out to me to get some product advice about a travel startup he was considering, which got me thinking... it's time to build Pangea. I brought the design for the Pins and Trips together, and realized that while knowing who to ask for Recs was useful, being able to share Recs in the platform directly would be a game changer.
That November, I was at the Outsite in Tulum, and had dinner with another guy who was staying there named Alex, and we got to talking about the need for a way to keep track of everyone's plans and recs... so I showed him the very ugly Figma prototype that I had put together, and he gave me the final push to make it happen. He also happened to be a UX designer who is now on our team!
The next day, I called Hitesh who I had worked with in the past to see if he would be interested in helping us build it. Then it was off to the races.
We got our Alpha out in 2021 and our Open Beta on the Appstore in early 2022. This year, we brought on Yamini full-time who has totally re-built the product based on feedback from early adopters, and we are continuing to innovate based on feedback from the many travelers who are using the platform every day. Here's a rundown of key feature's we've developed:
📍 Pins: Add the countries, regions, and cities you've been. Connect with friends to see where they've been.
✈️ Plans: Share your upcoming travel plans so your friends can see where you'll be. View a schedule of everyone's trips, and keep track on the Feed as new trips are planned / start
⭐️ Recs: Give and receive recommendations for restaurants, cafes, bars and more. All of your recs are automatically added to your profile, and aggregated for a given city or country, so you can add them once, and your friends can benefit from them again and again. You can even share them with a link to those who don't yet have Pangea (goodbye sharing Google Docs).
🗺 Map: View everyone's current and future location an a beautiful map full of photos of the places they are going. Better insight into where others will be helps you manage your travel schedule.

It looks like you've developed a lot of product functionality into your app — what drives your innovation and product strategy? Have you built things that didn't work as expected, or had any surprising things happen as you connected and grew your community?
What's on the roadmap next for Pangea?
Hi Ian, thanks! We've invested heavily in product innovation and experimentation which has been well received by our community so far.
Our product strategy is based on 3 main drivers: (1) A generalized version of our own needs as travelers which are not met by other products, (2) Our vision for how travel should be, and the necessary convergence of functionality to make that happen; and (3) Feedback and ideas from our users
In terms of roadmap, we have quite a bit planned for the next 6+ months, but first up is the continued enhancement / streamlining of the recommendations feature which is still quite new and leaves a bit more to be desired (for me as a traveler at least!)
As you start using the app, we are very open to any feedback or suggestions that you might have!

I am an anti social individual especially with social media. But I have Pangea because it incorporates real travel plans that I can share with friends and also helps keep me on schedule. Best part is it inspires me to travel with others as I can see my friends plans. This app is AMAZING and TOP for many reasons. Love it. Explore it fully and you will not be let down.
