Life can make some unexpected turns sometimes. About three weeks ago now I decided to end of life "Map Your City" the creator platform for destinations after 10 years - a difficult decision that left me feeling empty and sad. As if life had arranged for this, that Friday the week after I heard about Lovable’s weekend showdown. An AI builder platform. I decided to enter and poured everything I learned from leading Map Your City into "Ask Seve". In one weekend I built the basis (that was a lot already) and the week after I finetuned, trained the LLM, added a full working backend. Now there is a full blown travel app called Seve and I am proud of what he's become. Try Seve out and let me know what you would like to see added.
Hi Caroline, thanks for sharing your new project! What tools did you develop it with (e.g. the tech stack, etc). Also I'm curious about how you trained the LLM and on what data - can you share a bit more about this process? Thanks!
Hi Ian. Sure. I built it using lovable.dev ‘s AI platform. It uses React. I developed it using conversation, much like I would have these conversations with my developers. Being critical is necessary and it helps when you bring 10 years of leading a tech team to the table. Even AI can be as stubborn as developers can sometimes.;) But the future is clear and it gives creatives the tools to build their dreams without coding, superfast. Also it integrates with a supabase backend and stripe for checkout. I did a lot of research on and prototyping with use of LLM and chat for Map Your City so getting the chat function running on the LLM was building on that knowledge. I would advise anyone to invest in that first.
You asked for feedback. I used all of my 10 free credits trying to get suggestions for air-conditioned vegan restaurants in the Left Bank of Paris. This was the response:
"Thank you so much for sharing those extra details about the Left Bank! I love that you’re looking for air-conditioned vegan restaurants—it’s such a great way to stay cool and enjoy delicious plant-based food in Paris. Would you like to mark the Left Bank as "Visited" (so you can remember you’ve been there), or add it to your planner for a future adventure? Just let me know which one feels right for you right now! Left Bank Paris, France A historic and artistic district known for its vibrant culture and intellectual heritage, the Left Bank of Paris continues to captivate visitors with its timeless charm and dynamic atmosphere. Travelers frequently mention the neighborhood’s welcoming array of dining options, noting a growing presence of air-conditioned vegan restaurants that provide a refreshing respite during warmer months. Visitors often find that these establishments not only cater to a range of dietary preferences but also offer a comfortable environment in which to enjoy innovative, plant-based cuisine. This blend of tradition and modernity, coupled with a dedication to diverse culinary experiences, allows guests to savor the district’s celebrated ambiance alongside contemporary comforts—a combination that consistently enhances the Left Bank’s enduring appeal."
If this is meant to be a "planning assistant", it failed in this request. Not sure whose content you're using to train your app, but if it's the same every other AI-based travel apps is using, that explains why it's not very helpful. I've tested every new AI travel app that I come across, and -- at least for Paris -- have found them full of inaccuracies and generally useless. A basic Google search produces better suggestions.
