I am an experienced lecturer in tourism and event management and a researcher in transport, tourism and urban Studies. I have been producing published research in high-quality journals since 2007.
My PhD on Active Travel, and published research on walking and cycling draws together the low-carbon, health and sustainability agendas which are fundamental in the 21st century and beyond. I have managed and supported a number of international consortiums on transport research projects including MAX-SUCCESS (2006-9), Citizens' Rail (2012-15), European Greenways (2013-15) and Silver Cyclists (2015-16).
I further developed my research profile in Salford and Manchester until 2020, working on numerous proposals including a successful £1.7 million project, IGNITION to set up a Lab for Green Infrastructure and projects which provides real impact to communities and industry, in Greater Manchester and globally. I co-founded the research team Healthy Active Cities which continues to provide cutting edge research on active and sustainable travel. I continue to collaborate with academics and industry partners across many institutions.
Currently I lead 2 degree programmes which are ranked 4th in the UK and 1st in Scotland. I continue to develop high quality teaching experiences and if you are interested in collaborating please do get in touch!
I am keen to network, and develop greater links between education and the industry
