Hi, I am Martin from Germany and I am passionate about making travel and tourism more sustainable. I believe that tourism can not just minimize its ecological impacts, but is also able to support local communities, create awareness amongst travelers and be a change agent for new innovative activities.
I've been focusing on sustainability in tourism for more than 10 years now, working as a consultant for many institutions such as Ministries, Associations, Certification Schemes, Businesses and Tourism Destinations. Additionally, I am a Research Fellow at the University for Sustainable Development for the Centre for Sustainable Tourism and do mainly research on CSR, sustainable destination management and right now mainly the measurement of sustainability in tourism. Here, I am for example also at the UNWTO Expert Group for the initiative MST "Measuring the Sustainability for Tourism".
For TourCert, a certification body in tourism (as a shareholder and consultant), I do trainings, coaching, sustainability audits and manage national and international sustainability projects. For example, right now we support Ugandan tourism companies to make their business operations more sustainable. I also represent TourCert at several organizations such as the Roundtable for Human Rights in Tourism or the Global Sustainable Tourism Council GSTC.
But mainly I am a father of a lovely son and I enjoy living in Berlin and being inspired day by day.
