I’m a Bulgaria-based adventure-geography researcher, writer, and creator of Journey Beyond the Horizon—an independent field-based project combining route research, terrain observation, maps, photography, and video.
My work focuses on destination research, route logic, overland travel, mountain regions, remote places, POI descriptions, original field photography, and practical local context. I’m especially interested in the space between travel media, geography, mapping, and real-world route experience.
I have worked on paid field content projects involving POI research, location descriptions, original photos, and lesser-known places. My strongest regions include Bulgaria, the Balkans, China, Eastern Tibet, Central Asia, and complex overland or mountain routes.
Why did you join the community?
Q&AI’m joining Travel Massive to connect with people working across travel media, destination content, mapping, travel tech, and field-based storytelling. I’m especially interested in collaborations around destination research, POI/location content, route and access notes, Bulgaria/Balkans travel knowledge, China-related travel context, and geography-informed travel projects.
What is your favorite travel destination?
Q&AThe Balkans as a "test area". Beyond the Balkans: The "Roof of the World" (Tibet, Himalaya, Pamir, Tian Shan), and Indonesia
Where do you dream of traveling to?
Q&ACrossing Eurasia, crossing Siberia, Chang Tang plateau, Papua, Oceania.
What was your first travel job?
Q&AMy first paid travel content assignment was with Touring Bird. I researched and documented lesser-known places and alternative angles on well-known landmarks in Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Beijing, providing original photos and short traveler-oriented descriptions for each location.
What do you want to learn more about?
Q&AI want to learn more about how travel media, destination platforms, mapping tools, and travel tech companies use field-based content, local expertise, photography, route knowledge, and POI/location data to create better travel experiences.
Three words that describe why we should travel?
Q&AGeography. Reality. Understanding.

On our maps we see the terrain, roads, trails, various borders and points on the maps. Some borders show protected or restricted territories but the travel apps often don't explain what exactly are the rules for crossing. Besides, the rules can be chang... show more

Thanks for the detailed explanation, Samvel. The Travel Guide already covers valuable destination-level context, while a route layer could complement it by connecting that information to particular segments and decisions. If you explore this direction i... show more

Thanks, Raj — I agree! I’ve actually just sent Resonate a pitch for a Traveller’s Tale about my Mount Kerinci experience in Sumatra. I hope it may be a good fit for the platform.

One feature that would make a platform like TripProf particularly useful to me is support for route logic, not only itinerary organization. For complex overland and mountain journeys, individual stops are connected by practical dependencies: realistic ... show more

For me, a travel story resonates when the human experience is inseparable from the geography of the place — its landscape, routes, history, livelihoods, and the practical realities of being there. Beautiful descriptions may inspire, but specific local c... show more
