John Finch — Safari Guide, Photographer & Writer | Cape Town, South Africa

I've spent 30 years living out of a Land Cruiser across Southern and East Africa — tracking leopards in Sabi Sand, watching elephants cross the Chobe at sunset, and learning the difference between a good safari and one people talk about for the rest of their lives.

Based in Hout Bay, Cape Town, I run John Finch Travel, designing small-group and tailor-made safari itineraries across Kruger, the Okavango Delta, Chobe, Moremi, Hwange, Victoria Falls, and beyond — mostly for US travelers chasing their first (or fifteenth) African wildlife experience. I also work as a Tour Manager within the Cullinan Holdings/Springbok Atlas network, so I'm as comfortable running logistics for a 40-person group as I am guiding two people to a quiet waterhole at dawn.

What I bring to the table that a brochure can't: three decades of field time. I know which camps deliver on their marketing, which routes actually work for a first-timer versus a repeat visitor, and how to read a landscape well enough to put people in the right place at the right moment — not just book them a nice room.
