My public relations career spans nearly 30 years, first penning celebrity profiles as an intern at Rogers & Cowan then transitioning into the world of retail and fashion in the public relations office at the California Mart. I dabbled in non-profit as a publicist for the American Diabetes Association where I helped to promote such events as Woman of Valor honoring Goldie Hawn and the annual Celebrity Waiters Brunch.
I was hired as the public relations manager aboard the Queen Mary Hotel and Attraction in Long Beach where I spent the next few years overseeing the ship’s publicity efforts both domestically and internationally, as well as serving as the ship’s spokesperson often appearing in front of the camera on a number of local, regional, national and international news programs, from the BBC to CNN, helping to promote the ship. I also served as liaison to VIP guests including Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Senator Elizabeth Dole, Prince Michael of Kent and numerous Hollywood celebrities.
I eventually started my own public relations consultancy representing restaurants, chefs, sommeliers, destination marketing organizations, hotels and inns. My first client was a new and struggling restaurant--Yard House--which remained a client for 20 years and some 60 restaurant openings.
In addition to my work in public relations, I am also an award-winning travel writer and author of nine books. For many years I served as the Coachella Valley restaurant writer for Gayot, and I continue to write travel features for various media outlets. My work has been published in National Geographic Traveler, Los Angeles Times and Orange Coast Magazine, just to name a few.
I am also the founder and organizer of Dine Out Long Beach, Restaurant and Cocktail Week. Currently, I am working on my WSET Level II certificate.
