Hi everyone, I'm Øyvind the founder and developer of PanFlights.

Why Don’t More People Use Sustainable Travel Tools?

Most travelers use a handful of big travel platforms by default. These platforms dominate because:

• News media regularly feature them
• Influencers often promote them
• Massive marketing budgets keep them top of mind

But here’s the catch: big platforms rarely highlight the more sustainable travel solutions that actually exist - available with tools that help you combine trains, buses, and flights for lower-carbon, time-effective journeys.

Enter PanFlights.com, our flexible date multi-modal travel planner that shows greener, often cheaper routes. By prioritizing intercity trains and buses connecting at airport stations it enables smooth rides. Comes with industry standard CO₂ emission estimates. Yet, despite its clear climate benefits, PanFlights remains under the radar.

Why? Because visibility platforms (such as search engines and media channels) that shape traveler habits:

• Don’t cover or rank the more sustainable route planners well
• Are driven by revenue models favoring high-commission transport planning
• Benefit from the current status quo, unintentionally sidelining climate-friendly innovation

To truly shift travel toward sustainability, we need to:

✅ Support and use tools like PanFlights
✅ Encourage media and search engines to spotlight sustainable travel solutions
✅ Advocate for visibility platforms to make greener options prominent
✅ Push for policies that level the playing field for climate-positive travel tech

Here's an example PanFlights route including train — Philadelphia to Paris:

👉 panflights.com/en/oneway/?v2=4444_2076_20251008_ff:3,3

Likely the top results above will suggest a route via Newark (EWR). The airport is directly connected to Philadelphia with an hour train ride, and from EWR there are several cost-effective direct flights to Paris. If you try that search in a traditional flight search engine you will notice the difference.

🌿 The future of travel depends not just on better tools - but on who gets seen and heard. Let’s raise the profile of sustainable travel for the planet and for all.

Founder, I Want That Flight

Hi Øyvind - Well designed travel site. The animations of the journey are great (though maybe the car doesn't need to change size?). Also the filters are easy to use & understand, which is no small feat on mobile considering how many aspects of the journey can be changed. How did you come up with the name PanFlights?

Thanks Garth, glad you took such a good look at the design, it's the first time somebody has commented on the animation which I spent quite some time with.

Pan in ancient Greek means all, entire, whole. Long ago, Earth had the mega-continent Pangea. To cross it, wings were needed. The flying Peter Pan is another association. With this in mind the decision was taken.
