About me

I'm an experienced travel/tourism marketer living in Bangkok, Thailand with my wife and our dogs.

I began my travel career in 1992 as a tour guide in Paris, trying in vain to interest newspaper reader groups travelling to Eurodisney in the history & culture of the world's greatest city, when all they wanted to do was see the Mouse & eat at McDonalds. I eventually moved to the company's head office in Surrey to work in sales, before moving to the inbound sector with JAC Travel, where I stayed for 5 years working in sales & operations. My sheer longevity meant that I became the most experienced user of Tourplan, and was thus tasked with training new staff in its usage.

Which in turn led to an offer to join travel tech supplier Open Destinations, where I spent nearly 3 years implementing, marketing and training in Travel Studio, working with clients in the UK, Canada, Egypt, South Africa and Vietnam, including the likes of Abercrombie & Kent and Gullivers Sports Tours.

In 2003, suddenly gripped by wanderlust, I emigrated to Vietnam where I spent the next 9.5 years including spells as IT project manager with Exotissimo, Marketing Director of TRG International (where I helped market Genares), DOSM for the Duxton Hotel and eventually my own inbound operator, Come & Go Vietnam.

In 2012, I moved to Thailand to work for one of my clients, ultra-luxe Asia travel agent Remote Lands, where I marketed the company's range of bespoke tours to over 30 Asian countries. I oversaw the new website, which won a TravelMole award in 2014, and also looked after SEO, social media marketing, PR, brochures/collateral etc. I achieved a 200%+ increase in web traffic and a similarly impressive increase in enquiries, while revenues increased from $4m to $10m per year on my watch - not that I saw any benefit, but that's another story...

In late 2015 I left to set up my own business Tineri, an application enabling travel providers to supplement/replace their traditional paper/PDF itineraries with a stylish, interactive mobile app. In May 2017 I sold a stake to UK travel tech company Open Destinations and Tineri is now live and being used by our first customers.

In May 2019 I stepped back from hands-on involvement with Tineri and am now involved with another travel tech startup, eRoam.
