About me

Hi, I’m Susie. I’m a parent with a serious travel habit and a firm belief that great trips don’t need a big budget. I founded Our Tribe Travels, a global community of parents who love adventurous travel, and it’s now over 35,000 members strong. I’ve since launched Family Home Swaps, a home exchange community built just for parents, where you can find homes by location, age-specific amenities and what your family loves to do. We have homes across 6 continents and 62 countries, and I love helping families travel more for less and see the world through the eyes of a local family.

Why did you join the community?

I’d love to meet other travel entrepreneurs, swap ideas and stories, and be part of a global community of fellow travel fanatics.

What is your favorite travel destination?

Ooh, this is a tough one! I love a lot of places, but India has a big place in my heart. I lived and worked in Mumbai for a few years, and the colours, sounds, tastes and chaos are like nowhere else I’ve been. I miss the food, and how humble the people I met were.

Where do you dream of traveling to?

Galapagos Islands for a wildlife extravaganza!

What was your first travel job?

Not exactly a job, but when my ex-husband and I spent 8 months backpacking around SE Asia with our 11-month-old baby in 2011, I launched my first community-focused travel blog - a backpack, a buggy, a baby. It was my first taste of providing like-minded parents with valuable content, AND I met up and stayed with some of the parents along the way.

What do you want to learn more about?

Family Home Swaps is bootstrapped, and I recently successfully applied for my EIS. I'd love some tips and recommendations from other founders on securing their first raise.

Three words that describe why we should travel?

Curiosity, connection, perspective.
