Phelokazi Mbebe is UCT's Vacation Accommodation Manager, bringing over 16 years of Tourism and Hospitality experience. She oversees the Vacation Accommodation division within UCT's Commercial Development Department, managing several Cape Town hotels that generate a vital third income stream for the university by housing students and the public.
Mrs Mbebe holds a master's degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management and a Postgraduate Diploma in Tourism and Events Management. In 2025, she completed an executive course in the Developing Women in Leadership Programme, advancing her leadership skills and commitment to empowering women in the industry.
Since August 2021, she has served on the FEDHASA Cape Board as alternate Chair for young professionals. FEDHASA, established in 1949, is South Africa's leading hospitality lobbying body, representing hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, and industry partners.
Since April 2026, Mrs Mbebe has also served as a subcommittee member of the Women in Tourism Association, contributing her experience to members while serving Cape Town's women in tourism community.
She mentors over 10 young professionals, tracking their progress monthly to support their growth. Mrs Mbebe enjoys celebrating mentees' successes and speaking at industry events. Above all, she treasures raising her two daughters with her husband while pursuing her dream career in hospitality, supported by her family every step of the way.
