I'm a dentist based in Vancouver who has always enjoyed traveling and figuring out how to get good value out of a trip. I'm not a professional developer, but I recently started building Travel Value Score as a personal project to combine my interest in travel, data, and technology.
Why did you join the community?
Q&AI joined because I'd like to learn from people who actually work in travel and connect with others who enjoy building things in this space. I'm also working on my own travel project, so I'm hoping to get some honest feedback and learn more about the industry along the way.
What is your favorite travel destination?
Q&AHard to choose one, but I love travelling to Japan.
Where do you dream of traveling to?
Q&ARather than one specific place, my dream is to travel for a much longer period of time. Most of my trips have only been about 2–3 weeks, so I’d love to experience travelling for a few months, or maybe even a year someday.
What was your first travel job?
Q&AI've never actually worked in the travel industry. My interest in travel started when I visited Europe with my family in elementary school, and I've loved travelling ever since.
What do you want to learn more about?
Q&APretty much anything and everything about travel. I'm especially interested in how people discover destinations, plan trips, and get more value out of their travels.
Three words that describe why we should travel?
Q&ACuriosity. Perspective. Experience.

Even if the U.S. dollar still goes a long way in a country, the score can be lower if the exchange rate is not as favorable as it was 12 months or 5 years ago. A lower safety score can also bring down the overall score. That said, you’re absolutely rig... show more

Safety score is definitely being worked on further. The difficulty definitely is that safety is indeed subjective and safety varies even within the country. So for this reason, it becomes even more difficult for a geographically larger country like Aus... show more

Hi Nacho. Thanks for your feedback and your kind words! I know currency alone does not fully reflect the value for travelling to a country so I added in other factors as well to calculate the score (seasonality, safety, weather, etc). I will continue to... show more
