About this event

For most people, the “how” of buying an airline ticket or a hotel night often doesn’t matter. Whether it’s through an online travel agency like Expedia, an airline’s website or through a brick and mortar agency, what matters most is the price and the service selected. But, what many people don’t realize is that the choices they are given are largely driven by underlying distribution models – models built on 40-year-old technology.

Those models, however, are changing. At this event, Peter Kane from the Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) will offer a glimpse behind the scenes of travel distribution and dive into how new technology is reshaping how people buy travel now and will buy it in the future. He’ll demystify industry acronyms like GDS and NDC, demonstrate how travel suppliers create inventory and distribute it to buyers, offer a sneak peek into the world of travel with bots and AI and demonstrate how companies like Amazon or Google could upend the market as we know it.
