About this event

You are invited to an exclusive media event on Wednesday, July 11, at 10 a.m. for a sneak peek of Fiji's "takeover of San Francisco" and to join us for a bowl of kava!

The entire Bay Area is about to be infused with Fijian happiness, thanks to the arrival of the Fiji Airways Men's 7s rugby team! They are in town to compete in the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens Tournament at AT&T Stadium, July 20-22. This is the first time the tournament has been played in the U.S.β€”and the Fiji team has big plans to bring their natural happiness to town.

This exclusive media preview event will take place at the Kava Lounge in Alamo Square. It will be a happiness-filled morning during which we will brief you on a series of public engagement events taking place July 16-19, as the warm and vibrant culture of Fiji will be coming to life throughout the Bay Area.

You will learn about the pop-up warrior performances that will shake up Union Square, the rugby team's visit to Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland Sports Medicine Center, a traditional Fijian kava ceremony, and a special event rugby welcome event in Embarcadero Plaza.

You will enjoy some kava, which is a key aspect of traditional Fijian culture. Kava is made with the crushed root of the yaqona plant, a relative of the pepper plant. In Fiji, kava ceremonies are performed at special occasions as a sign of respect, welcoming, and camaraderie among family and friends. So it makes sense for us to serve kava on July 11!

We hope that you will join us!

We kindly ask you to RSVP by July 10; please email Rebecca Steadly at rsteadly@phelpsagency.com.
