I'm a marketing strategist committed to helping tourism businesses and destinations connect with travellers the right way.
For too long, tourism has been an extractive industry that puts profits before people and the planet. Yes, sustainable travel has gained some attention and momentum in recent years, but sustainability isn't enough. We need to think bigger, braver, and bolder. We should strive to be regenerative and leave places better than we found them.
For marketing and communications, that means throwing cheap sales tactics in the bin; no more "BOOK NOW. LIMITED PLACES!", Black Friday promotions, or "10 Places in Europe you MUST visit" bucket list articles. Travellers and locals deserve better.
That doesn't mean profits need to suffer, though. After all, as a business, you need to profit to survive. But implementing regenerative practices actually gives travellers much richer experiences that are built on genuine connection.
I'm not saying it's easy. It requires creative and smart thinking. Copy and pasting what everyone else is doing doesn't work in this business. But once you've created something truly unique that is both exciting for travellers AND benefits locals and nature, you're onto a real winner.
To connect with like-minded professionals that are actively working to make travel better and discover ideas and resources that would otherwise go under my radar.
Vietnam has a special place in my heart. It's got amazing culture, a complicated history, and the beautiful scenery you'd expect to see on a postcard depicting quintessential Southeast Asia. Don't get me started on the food.
At the moment, I'm desperate to take my campervan and spend a few months in Scandinavia.
Graduating during peak-COVID, I started out volunteering with Enable My Trip, an accessible travel charity, and today, I'm still supporting them on the board of trustees. That experience helped me land my first job working as a travel consultant in Bournemouth, UK. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Regenerative tourism and hospitality in practice, marketing strategies that are respectful of locals and destination biodiversity, and how to implement tech solutions to measure and manage sustainability efforts.
Connection, meaning, inspiration.
Looking forward to joining my first Travel Massive event on the Monday at Stripe's HQ, and I'll also be at WTM all three days. Cannot wait for the usual crap WiFi and nowhere to sit 👀 I'll probably loitering be over by the Purple Theatre for the susta... show more
