About this event

The Mekong Tourism Forum 2022 is back in-person.

After two years of disruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mekong Tourism Forum returns as a physical event in 2022. It will be held in Quang Nam Province, home to Hoi An ancient town in central Viet Nam, from 12 – 13 October 2022.

Under the theme “Rebuild Tourism, Rebound with Resilience,” this will be the first interactive in-person event convening public- and private-sector tourism leaders and experts from the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) and beyond since the pandemic began. This GMS signature forum will focus on targeted regional efforts and cross-sectoral collaboration to foster real action toward rebuilding a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable tourism industry.

Get ready to engage in insightful conversations about critical trends and issues related to tourism recovery communications, digital transformation, supply chain localization, and capacity-building support and upskilling programs for the tourism workforce, particularly among micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises.

Join us to escape from the virtual realm and return to the real world while reconnecting and networking with regional tourism leaders and experts. All set amid the backdrop of an ancient town rich in history and culture in between the sea and mountains.

Free registration includes complimentary access to the forum, meals, airport transfer, technical tours and activities in the program.

About Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office (MTCO)

The Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office (MTCO) started operations in 2006. It came out of the Phnom Penh Declaration on Mekong Tourism following the 16th meeting of the GMS Tourism Working Group (TWG) and is composed of senior officials from the National Tourism Organizations of the six GMS countries. The MTCO receives contributions from the member countries and was initially tasked with assisting the GMS TWG in implementing the GMS Tourism Sector Strategy (TSS) that envisioned the GMS as a unified single destination.

Over the years, the MTCO has continuously evolved and strengthened its fundamental role in fostering and facilitating effective collaboration among the GMS governments, development partners, the private sector, academic institutions, and the media on the implementation of the GMS TSS. The MTCO now serves as the secretariat for the GMS TWG to lead the development and promotion of the GMS as a single tourism destination in collaboration with the public and private sectors. It also coordinates project development and implementation under the GMS TSS and facilitates tourism knowledge production, centralization, and dissemination.
